Raleigh, N.C. (Sept. 28, 2015) – French/West/Vaughan (FWV), one of the nation’s leading independently held public relations, advertising and digital marketing agencies, has been selected by the Veteran Golfers Association (VGA) to provide public relations and sponsorship support for its 2015 VGA National Championship. Eighty of the country’s top military veteran golfers will compete for the National Championship this Veterans Day (Wednesday, Nov. 11) at historic Pinehurst No. 2.
Joshua Peyton, a retired Army Captain and Army Ranger, founded the VGA in 2014 to bridge the gap between soldiers’ passion for service and the game of golf. The sport helped Peyton immensely on his road to recovery after nearly losing his hand in a vehicle rollover accident in Iraq.
The first VGA National Championship comes on the heels of a series of qualifying events, where more than 600 veterans competed to earn their spots in the tournament. The final line-up includes veterans from across the United States and all branches of the military. Wounded veterans make up nearly half the field, and more than a dozen competitors have received Purple Hearts.
“The Veteran Golfers Association is the only organization nationwide to offer all veterans and their family members the opportunity to compete, stay active and socialize through golf,” said FWV Chairman and CEO Rick French. “The 2015 VGA National Championship is a testament to our veterans’ passion and determination.”
FWV will leverage its public relations and marketing expertise to generate support for the VGA and National Championship among key media, business leaders and public officials. To promote VGA’s first annual tournament, FWV is providing strategic event positioning, sponsorship support and media relations campaign activations.
