FWV is privileged to represent sports agent, media personality, best-selling author and renowned speaker Leigh Steinberg. Known for record-setting athlete contracts, groundbreaking charitable works and his role in inspiring the film “Jerry Maguire,” Leigh’s ascent to the pinnacle of the sports world in the 80s and 90s heralded the era of the “super agent.”
FWV has been instrumental in helping Leigh reestablish his brand following a brief career hiatus. Our representation has resulted in coverage in USA Today, The New York Times Magazine and The Los Angeles Times, and established Leigh as a fixture on CNN, Bloomberg, Fox News and MSNBC. We have shuttled him through Media Row at two Super Bowls and assisted with the comeback of his legendary Super Bowl party, first in New York and last February in Phoenix.
Leigh has called on FWV once again to help promote one of his latest and most innovative initiatives. The Leigh Steinberg Agent Academy, a unique, one-day “boot camp” for aspiring agents, offers a unique curriculum that draws from his 40-year career as the preeminent agent in professional sports. Having represented a client roster that included superstars Warren Moon, Earl Campbell, Troy Aikman, Steve Young, Drew Bledsoe, Thurman Thomas and many more, Leigh has negotiated more than $3 billion in player contracts, and helped to generate over $800 million for local and national charities. He has represented the #1 pick in the NFL Draft a record eight times, plus more than 60 first-round draft selections. Seven former clients are enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
The Leigh Steinberg Agent Academy focuses on applied learning in subjects such as licensing, scouting, brand building, contract negotiation, community relations and ethics. The workshop is based on the licensed course work that Steinberg Sports & Entertainment is developing for university Sports Management programs, law schools and online education. The academy’s mission is to equip the next generation of agents for careers in a global marketplace where the reach, influence and impact of sports, entertainment, media, branding and cause-related marketing continues to grow.
When the inaugural Academy in Newport Beach, Calif., launched in 2014, FWV secured interest from The Post Game, a sports blog featured at Yahoo! Sports. The Post Game sent a video crew to capture the event and record interviews with those in attendance. Through Yahoo! Sports, the video feature reached millions of sports enthusiasts and industry professionals, and portions of the video are being used by Steinberg Sports as a marketing tool. View the video here.
This year, the Academy has expanded beyond Leigh’s home base in California to include workshops in Houston and Philadelphia. In Houston, FWV secured interviews for Leigh on two of the city’s top sports radio stations, and scored features in the Houston Chronicle, both online and in print, including advance coverage prior to the event and an on-site report by sportswriter Stephanie Kuzydym that ran on the front page of the Sunday Sports section.
With the Philadelphia workshop coming up on Aug. 1, FWV is currently developing similar media opportunities to drive awareness and attendance for this one-of-a-kind event. We congratulate Leigh and his partner, agent Chris Cabot, for their success in building the momentum behind the Academy, and look forward to being a part of its continued growth and impact.
